What is Islam

Islam is an Abrahamic, divine, monotheistic religion, there is only one God according to Islam and that is Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God. They are known as Muslims. Islam teaches that God is merciful, omnipotent, and one, and has guided mankind through prophets, messengers, scriptures, and verses. The basic texts in Islam are the Qur’an—which Muslims view as the literal and infallible word of God—and the normative teachings and examples (the Sunna), which include the hadiths of Muhammad.
